Tufted Carpets

In short, tufted carpet is when cut or looped carpet fibers poke through the carpet backing. The majority of wall-to-wall carpets on the market, or around 95%, are tufted carpets.

When tufting, the work is completed from the backside of the finished piece. A loop-pile machine sends yarn through the primary backing and leaves the loops uncut. A cut-pile machine produces plush or shaggy carpet by cutting the yarn as it comes through to the front of the piece.

With a reputation for being a sturdy, hardwearing and reliable carpet, the tufted style is very popular carpet and rug option for homeowners. Clusters of yarn fibres are punched through a material, such as cloth, by a needle to create the tufted look.
